What to Pack for a Ski Trip: Outfit Guide

It's that time of year again - ski season. The mountains are cool with snow and surrounded by cold air. Whether you're a ski fanatic or a cross-country skiing enthusiast, there are a few things you'll need to pack for a ski trip to keep you warm and cozy. We've put together a list of essentials for any ski trip to help you look stylish and warm:

Thermal layer: it is the garment that is going to have skin-to-skin contact, and for that reason, the best thing is to pick a layer with a high moisture-wicking capacity. Therefore, you will be able to keep your body dry and comfortable.

Polar layer: this undergarment is usually very thick. It should be comfortable and have thermal insulation properties.

Waterproof layer: the most important thing about this layer is that it needs to protect you from the cold, wind, and snow. Simply put, this means that this layer must provide you with insulation from the outside.

Accessories: make sure to cover most of your head, your ears, and your hands, for this reason, you should not be missing a hat, helmet, gloves, and a very good pair of socks.

Before buying any garments you should consider the following technical factors:

  • Impermeability: it is the resistance that a garment has against water, in other words, it doesn't let water pass through the fabric. In general, a ski jacket must have a minimum waterproofness of 5,000 mm.
  • Breathability: is the ability of the fabric to allow air and moisture vapor to be transmitted through the material making it either more or less wearable. The greater the breathability of the garment, the more comfortable you will feel in the snow.
  • Thermal insulation: is the capacity of the fabric to maintain body temperature and isolate you in wet conditions. Nowadays some clothes contain microfibers that have excellent insulation qualities.

And with this information, you can prepare yourself to spend some incredible days of skiing!
